Supporting Older Students with Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension and Written Expression
Students with DLD/LD have difficulties with the comprehension and expression of written language, specifically with vocabulary development, reading comprehension and written expression. These difficulties can create significant barriers to their participation in learning activities and place them at a serious disadvantage in the classroom.
This full day ONLINE workshop aims to build knowledge and skills for speech pathologists who work with Grade 5 - Grade 12 students with written language difficulties.

This highly practical interactive workshop is relevant to Speech Pathologists who work with upper primary and high school aged students experiencing difficulties with oral and written language impacting their academic skills. Topics covered include vocabulary instruction, reading comprehension and written expression across all text genres.
Participants will have the opportunity to:

Learn about evidence-based and clinical best practice strategies to support reading comprehension, from vocabulary to whole texts levels

Understand evidence-based and clinical best practice strategies to support written expression across all writing genres.

Explore the role of speech pathologists in supporting clients’ written language skills

Develop frames of reference, as well as resources, applicable to your clinical practice

Engage in hands-on learning tasks throughout the day
