S.P.A.R.K Group Therapy Program

The S.P.A.R.K holiday group is an inclusive program designed for our youngest explorers aged 4–6 years. This group offers a gentle introduction to the themes of our three most popular holiday program -STEM WhizKidz, C.R.A.F.T.S, and C.H.E.F.S - in a supportive environment tailored to their developmental stage.

Over the course of three days, children will "spark" their curiosity and creativity while being supported to show up exactly as they are. Each session introduces a new theme, allowing children to explore interests, build connections and discover their strengths in a way that feels safe and motivating.

Our Neuro-Affirming Approach
In S.P.A.R.K., we celebrate that every child communicates and learns differently. We provide a flexible environment where movement is welcomed, sensory needs are respected, and all forms of communication are valued.

Our S.P.A.R.K. acronym defines our commitment to supporting the child’s authentic self:
S – Social Connection: Building meaningful interactions based on shared interests and collaboration.
P – Play: Honouring individual learning styles and the "power of play" to explore and develop skills.
A – Advocacy: Encouraging children to make choices, advocate for their needs and be their true authentic selves.
R – Regulation: Learning strategies to feel calm and practicing in a safe, supported environment.
K – Kindness & Community: Creating a space where everyone is heard, valued and welcome.

What does the S.P.A.R.K. Program involve?
Each 2-hour session is an invitation to explore one of our themes:

  • The STEM Spark: High-interest experiments that encourage wonder and "what if?" thinking.
  • The CRAFT Spark: Process-based art where the focus is on the joy of creating and sensory exploration, rather than a "perfect" end product.
  • The CHEFS Spark: Interactive food exploration that respects sensory boundaries, focusing on the fun of food preparation and working as a team.

  • Encouraging turn-taking, sharing of material and collaborative teamwork through interest-led group activities
  • Providing effective co-regulation strategies and sensory tools that help children feel calm, safe and emotionally supported throughout new experiences
  • Empowering children to communicate their boundaries, make independent choices, and confidently request movement or sensory breaks using their preferred communication methods
  • Building confidence, adaptability, and emotional regulation during transitions by participating in a predictably structured group learning environment
  • Facilitating exploration of new textures, smells, and materials through science, crafts, and food
  • Supporting fine motor development through hands-on, process-based art, science and food preparation

Who is the S.P.A.R.K program for?

This program is ideal for children aged 4–6 years (Preschool to Year 1) who:

  • are keen to explore new interests in a low-pressure, supportive setting.
  • thrive in environments that value sensory preferences and movement breaks.
  • are curious about science, art, or food but benefit from a shorter, "taster" format.
  • would enjoy a group led by therapists who prioritise emotional safety and authentic self-expression.

Frequently Asked Questions

1Where is the group held?
All group sessions are held at our clinic in Lane Cove. We have a variety of purpose-built therapy rooms that are spacious, colourful and engaging for learning. Families are encouraged to congregate in the clinic waiting area approximately 5 minutes before the start of the session. The therapists facilitating the group will meet families there and accompany participants to the group space. The address of the clinic is: Ground Floor, 1 Pottery Lane, Lane Cove, 2066, NSW.
2What happens if I miss one of the sessions?
All group programs are designed so that a session can be missed without hindering future sessions. However, if you are unable to attend, we do appreciate 24 hours' notice so that the facilitator can plan accordingly. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a refund for missed group sessions.
3How do I pay?
All group sessions are paid for in advance. Our Client Services Team will provide you with details on how to secure your spot.
4What qualifications do the staff have?
All group programs are facilitated by certified practising speech pathologists and occupational therapists. There may also be students or allied health assistants supporting some group sessions.
5Do parents need to stay?
No. We generally find that children are more involved in group activities when parents are not present. There are plenty of shops and cafes in the local area that we encourage parents to explore while they wait. Families are also welcome to pass the time in our clinic waiting area, offering a small selection of magazines, books and toys.
6How can parents get feedback about how the group went?
For parents who would like more information about how their child did in the group, we can offer a 30-minute meeting or summary report at the end of the program. Please enquire about this optional extra when booking.
7What do I need to bring?
Nothing! All resources for the group program will be provided by Sydney Speech Clinic. Children are welcome to bring a water bottle into the therapy room.
8What should my child wear?
Art smocks will be provided. Since we will be working with different art materials it is recommended that your child wears clothes that you don’t mind getting a little messy.
9Do groups replace one-to-one sessions?
No. One-to-one sessions are intensive, individualised, and tailored specifically to the needs of the client. Group sessions are often seen as complementary to one-on-one therapy as they allow for practising skills learned in 1:1 therapy in a more natural and functional way to build social confidence and awareness.
